The Lecithin Manager is responsible for all aspects of production and operations of the Lecithin Plant, SHE, Quality Products, Production, Efficiencies, KPI, Projects,  Operations and Housekeeping .  Primary function is to ensure that process in the Lecithin Plant is completed in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with government regulations and Company standards.  

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions: 

  • Responsible for the safe operations of the Lecithin Plant operation  

  • Manages daily performance of the Lecithin Plant team to achieve or excced company objectives 

  • Completes regular checks of Lecithin staff and equipment to ensure that standard operating procedures are followed, and Company standards are met 

  • Prepare and implement plans to improve the productivity, efficiency of the plant’s operations and product quality 

  • Maintains proper coverage by managing the Lecithin staffing schedules. 

  • Responsible for environmental, safety and food quality compliance for the Lecithin Plant   

  • Prepare or supervise the preparation of daily and monthly production reports and verify their completeness and accuracy  

  • Responsible for the staffing and maintenance of good employee relations in the facility  

  • Work with the facility’s management to ensure that projects are appropriately prioritized and completed in a timely manner  

  • Plans and manages the Lecithin budget to meet facility needs and production goals. 

  • Responsible for training of new supervision and assisting in training of new hourly operators  

  • Make improvements, propose, and follow Capital Expense Projects to Lecithin  process as necessary to maximize efficiency, increase product quality and/or lower costs. 

  • Maintain accounting of lecithin and finished product inventories 

  • Communication and implementation of new safety and operational procedures  

  • Meet continuously customer demands  

  • Maintaining proper food safety requirements including training of employees, documentation, and implementing projects 

 

 

 

 

 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience,  

Experience 

  • 5+ years demonstrated experience and knowledge with quality parameters for plant based oil and lecithin. 

Knowledge/Skills/Licenses 

  • Demonstrated leadership ability in a plant supervision position.  Able to set clear, reasonable expectations and hold staff accountable  

  • Demonstrated ability to provide and maintain a safe and effective working environment. 

  • Project development and management experience. 

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge with quality parameters for plant based oil and lecithin. 

  • Reliability-Centered Maintenance training and experience is highly desirable. 

  • Working knowledge of budgets, process reports, and other financial statements. 

  • Proficient with standard software products. 

Equipment Used 

  • Use of computers for entering data into electronic data systems and control of maintenance related items. 

  • Use of OH & S testing equipment in compliance with OH & S regulations. 

  • Operate from time to time plant vehicles and equipment(e.g., air monitors, respirators) needed to load or offload equipment. 

  • Use of hand / power tools. 

  • Use and ensure the use of proper PPE when needed. 

  • Operate machinery, rail cars, plant vehicles. 

 

 

Working Conditions 

  • Continuous 24/7 plant operation with 12-hour rotational shifts, as well as off-shift call-in requirements when needed.  

  • Regular exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions; regular exposure to gases, vapors, dust, odors and flammable liquids; occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise.  

  • Heavy lifting of manufacturing materials and products is required. Position will require regular stair climbing and extended periods of walking and standing in order to access and occasionally work in remote areas of the plant, heights and confined spaces.  

  • Personal Protective Equipment will be worn in compliance with Company standards and government regulations.  

 

Call-ins or the extension of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or to respond to emergencies. 

 

Employee Supervision 

  • Supervise departments and direct reports. 

 

Decision Making/Accountability 

  • Operates machinery and controls for the production process of soy beans.  Direction work flow and direct reports to ensure peak production efficiencies and product quality.  Employs an understanding of Company standards and government regulations with respect to areas of responsibility to ensure ongoing compliance. Investigates and resolves any production issues. Participates in plant start-ups and shut-downs as required.

  • Is an active member of the facility SHE Program.  Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to.  Ensures employees are provided required training for area assigned, and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work.  Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner.  Ensures unsafe working conditions are remedied as soon as practicable.
