Founded in 1851, Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) is a privately held company and one of the largest commodity traders and processors in the world, with facilities in over 40 countries.  LDC trades or processes oilseeds, grains, biodiesel, ethanol, glycerin, lecithin, coffee, cotton, legumes, rice, and is expanding its plant proteins and food ingredients businesses. 

 

In addition to its trading activity, in North America, LDC owns and operates: oilseed crush and processing facilities; biodiesel, ethanol, glycerin and lecithin refineries; export terminals; and numerous logistics assets (warehouses, storage and distribution facilities).  LDC is also currently constructing three major processing assets in the US and Canada.

Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) is seeking a recent law school graduate who is hardworking, practical and business-minded, to join the LDC legal team at its North America headquarters in Wilton, Connecticut. This is a hybrid work environment, with 4 days in the office and 1 day work-from-home.

 

This position offers the recent law school graduate the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on in-house legal experience in a fascinating and varied industry, working closely with and supporting the other lawyers in the department. 

 

As Junior Counsel, you will work on a wide-range of legal matters associated with all aspects of the commodities trading and processing business, including transactions/M&A, commercial contracts, regulatory issues, finance agreements, construction contracts, HR/employment law matters and litigation/arbitrations.

 

You will also focus on innovation and intellectual property matters, which are increasingly a strategic aspect of LDC’s business, and you will work closely with our Corporate Secretary on matters related to our various legal entities.

  • Juris Doctor degree.
  • Bar admission in good standing, licensed to practice in one or more states; without admission in Connecticut, must be eligible to register as Connecticut Authorized House Counsel.
  • Recent law school graduate, or 1 – 2 years of experience in a law firm and/or in-house.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a challenging, fast-paced work environment.
  • Deep willingness to learn.
  • Proactive, energetic self-starter and independent thinker.
  • Detail oriented and organized.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills a must.
