The Internship

LDC’s Plant Protein team is seeking motivated students to join the internship program in the field of Plant Protein Research. The Plant Protein team, based in the newly constructed R&D Center in Livermore, CA, purifies and characterizes plant proteins, as well as develops solutions for their application within food systems.

The R&D Internship is an immersive 10-week paid summer program for college juniors, designed to give you insight and experience in the fast-growing plant protein research and application space. You will be assigned hands-on training in a challenging, objective-based and robust work environment. Potential assignments include work within R&D, Engineering and/or Application teams. All interns will be considered for full-time employment after graduation.

Responsibilities

  • Physicochemical characterization of protein rich ingredients
  • Functionality evaluation of protein and other food ingredients
  • Prototyping

Role Requirements

  • A genuine desire to learn about plant-based ingredients and food.
  • Superior problem-solving, time-management and organizational skills.
  • Adaptability and accountability.
  • Critical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Analytical mindset with proven ability to gather, interpret and synthesize large volumes of data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as an individual or collaborate as part of a team. 
  • Student in Food Science / Chemistry / Technology / Engineering or similar.
  • Capacity to work independently within defined experimental frame.
  • Basic laboratory experience. Knowledge in protein chemistry is a plus.
  • Demonstrated research experience in any domain.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Macro programing skill (e.g. Phyton, Microsoft Excel VBA) is a plus.
