This position is responsible for assisting the transportation team with handling key logistical responsibilities while interfacing and cultivating relationship with internal and external stakeholders.  This position would handle transportation data metrics analytics, tracking and tracing, planning and forecasting, record keeping and communicating shipment needs with customers.  This position would have responsibility to check various supplier rates across multiple modes while keeping rate matrices and rate analytics files updated.  A key aspect of this position will be improving the teams access, storage, organizing, analysis and reporting of vast amounts of data.     

 

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Build data analytics reports and maintain various data files for reviewing to answer various challenges and opportunity questions that arise
  • Liaison with traders, customers and operations staff to meet logistical needs for orders, sales, load plans and production plans
  • Become and maintain proficiency with various logistical systems
  • Manage rail freight contracts and implications of respective contracts including applications and filings
  • Supports local logistics teams in all rail movements, car billings and tracing and any other rail carrier or customer relationships
  • Manages / analyzes and authorizes payments for transportation services
  • Conducts and maintains research database on transportation movements related to processing plants, trading desks
  • Manages rate database for assigned plants and trading desk
  • Learn rate structures that provide for the most economical transportation cost structure & related processes
  • Works with the Transportation Desk to cross train and assist other team members efforts when needed
  • Assists with other duties as assigned
  • Effectively resolve issues and monitor day-to-day operations for compliance using organizational and time management skills
  • Evaluate and recommend / implement Lean processes to increase productivity

 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Learn processes to coordinate daily logistical activities at plants and coordinates with delivering rail carriers, traders and processing facilities.
  • Support team to ensure avoidance of penalties/demurrage/delays on railcars for plant processing facilities.
  • Support coordination of logistical issues and operations with plant personnel and serving carriers at each plant.
  • Develop logistical reports databases to better manage the private fleet assets utilizing Bourque System.
  • Assist in developing demurrage system within Bourque system; followed by maintaining system.

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

Basic qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial management, transportation/logistics, agriculture economics, agriculture technology management  

 

Experience

Basic qualifications:

  • Previous experience of logistics / customer support experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • Logistics/customer support experience with a grain or commodities trading company
  • Experience in a trading environment
  • Experience working in data management software’s
  • Experience working with transportation systems

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

Basic qualifications:

  • Knowledge of grain industry practices, terminology, and settlement process.
  • Strong practical logistics, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of rail freight transportation systems
  • Proficient on Excel and Office products.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, and understanding of lean principles
  • Ability to organize, manage, and communicate on data
  • Ability to set deadlines and adhere to them.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
