The Carbon Commercial Director North America (NAM) is a subject matter expert in global carbon markets with a strong focus on North America. He/she will focus primarily on building commercial offerings around voluntary carbon credits and Scope 3 reduction and removals for customers in North America. He/she will drive origination activities of carbon credits close to LDC's value chain in North America. He/she will also support the MRV and carbon certification processes of the LDC’s portfolio of projects, in close cooperation with the rest of the Sustainability and Energy Transition team. He/she will build upon effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and network with organizations, carbon standards, consultants and other key stakeholders. He/she will be the first point of contact and knowledge center regarding carbon in NAM for LDC and will be actively involved in developing strategic long-term goals and plans towards a low carbon future for LDC in NAM and the Sustainability and Energy Transition team. 

  • Manage a commercially profitable carbon portfolio for voluntary carbon markets in NAM.  

  • Develop and implement LDCs NAM marketing strategy for Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) to relevant buyers in voluntary carbon markets as well as to LDC customers. Coordinate, jointly with respective business units (primarily: Grains & Oilseeds, Cotton) and program teams (primarily: Regenerative Agriculture), the development and marketing of low carbon products, scope 3 claims (insetting) and impact units.    

  • Identify, evaluate and conduct due diligence assessment of origination project opportunities across all carbon standards and methodologies with a primary focus on nature-based / AFOLU solutions and a specific focus on agriculture-related project types. 

  • Develop and maintain internal and external relationships and network with LDCs business and program teams and 3rd parties to establish a leading carbon portfolio in NAM. Develop internal and external relationships and network with customers, organizations, consultants, and other key players / stakeholders to support and lead the carbon-related commercial activities in NAM. 

  • Actively contribute to the definition of strategic priorities for Sustainability and Energy Transition team in NAM. Participate in / contribute to other LDC wide climate-related strategic initiatives. 

  • LDCs decarbonization journey: Actively contribute to and participate in the establishment of a “carbon expert knowledge center” within LDC to embed carbon within the full value chain. 

  • Support procurement team in sourcing Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) in NAM for internal use  

  • Organize / participate in internal workshops and presentations to transfer knowledge. 

  • Manage the NAM carbon solutions subteam (regional team, currently 2 FTEs but expected to grow) and report directly to Head of Sustainability and Energy Transition, based in Geneva.  

  • Masters Degree (or equivalent)

  • 7 year working experience of which at least 3 years in the carbon markets with focus on carbon credit and/or insets origination and sales 

  • Extensive experience in North American markets 

  • Experience in Agri - commodity supply chains, and in agroforestry and land-use carbon methodologies  

  • In-depth knowledge of carbon certification requirements and procedures 

  • Knowledge of renewables’ markets and US and Canadian RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates) is a plus.  

  • Knowledge of GHG footprints calculation and corporate GHG management is a plus. 

  • Strong analytical skills to understand, use and/or develop methodologies and tools to evaluate carbon balance sheet (supply & demand)  

  • Knowledge of low-carbon fuel markets and policy (California Low Carbon Fuel Standard) is a strong plus. 

  • Experience in collecting / managing / analyzing large volumes of data.  

  • Strong commercial acumen
