As Gennadiy points out, the Ukrainian flag is often interpreted as a portrayal of blue sky over wheat fields. With over 40 million hectares of land in Ukraine devoted to arable farming, agriculture is part of the nation’s culture and history, and he is proud to be part of this heritage.
Gennadiy has been with LDC since 2015. He works with key clients in Ukraine and is also head of three regional offices, which cover the whole of western Ukraine.
He is currently on a six-month secondment to the South Africa office, working closely with their trading and research teams.
When asked what skills and attributes were needed to work in the commodities business, Gennadiy cites good numeracy, strong communication and resilience against stress. But he believes the single most important element that adds value to his working life can be summed up in one word: teamwork.
“In the commodities business each country is different but they are all part of the global picture. That’s why the company needs a good team around the world.”
