The Production Manager reports to the Operations Manager, and is responsible for maintaining all critical process parameters for pea processing, sanitation duties and inspections prior to start up, preventative maintenance and lubrication activities by plant personnel. This position is also a back-up to the Operations Manager and is accountable for SHE programs, quality and adherence to cost and production schedules.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct daily production huddles with shift leaders and discusses production plans, any program shortfalls and hurdles with operation.
  • Accountable for plant production rates and process yield.
  • Responsible for administering the operations budget (including processing aids, utilities consumption (air, water, gas), packaging materials, sanitation chemicals).
  • Define critical processing parameters and methods to track and trend. Create action plans if process is out of control.
  • Develop training programs to ensure consistency between operators and reduce process variabilities. Ensure competency is measured after training is delivered. Owns the operations training matrix.
  • Ensure SHE programs and policies are followed and leads by example.
  • Order supplies for operations including sanitation and 5s.
  • Set up permits for LOTO and defining where they are kept.
  • Agenda for top daily, weekly and monthly meetings
  • Accountable to sign off on production records and ensure product is meeting the specified quality parameters.
  • Perform investigations on complaints and provides both written and verbal resolutions.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Hygiene standards and uniforms required in each hygiene zone.
  • Creating checklists for pre-ops, GMP inspections and checks for CCP’s and OPRP’s
  • Sponsors and participates in Continuous improvement projects
  • Understands and implements rules concerning Safety, Quality, Hygiene and environmental
  • Ensures staff are trained on specific job duties prior to signing off on the training records
  • Must have an Engineering Degree (Chemical, Biosystems, Mechanical)
  • Must have atleast 10 years work experience managing larger teams in the process industry, ideally with one or more of the following industries (Food, Pharma, Chemical)

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Trend analysis and measuring performance to objectives.
  • Technical understanding of process and maintenance
  • Continuous improvement mindset and Statistical Process Control knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to provide and maintain a safe and effective working environment.
  • Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and SAP)
  • Excellent at multitasking and good organizational skills
  • Detailed oriented and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Production and/or Maintenance experience, Quality and Safety knowledge

 

Working Conditions

Continuous 24/7 plant operations with this position are Mon – Fri 8 hrs. per day depending on plant operations, as well as off-shift call-ins.  The successful candidate should expect that there may be circumstances when they are required to work outside of their normal hours as a requirement of the position. Regular exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions; gases, vapors, dust, odors, and flammable liquids; occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high-volume noise.    

 

Physical Environment

Heavy lifting of manufacturing materials and products may be required.  Position requires regular stair climbing and extended periods of walking and standing to access remote areas of the plant.  Work at heights and in confined spaces.  Personal Protective Equipment will be worn in compliance with Company standards and government regulations.  Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time sensitive projects, attend training or respond to emergencies.

 

Decision Making/Accountability

Provide direction of workflow to staff to ensure peak work efficiencies and product quality are met.  The individual in this position will understand Company standards and government regulations with respect to areas of responsibility to ensure ongoing compliance.  Investigate and resolve production issues related to maintenance activities.  Individual will be required to participate in plant start-ups and shut-downs as required and in the management on-call rotation within the Maintenance department.
