The Financial Analyst - Middle Office Operations main responsibility will be to calculate, analyze and explain the daily results of the sugar trading desk, and assist the senior middle officer and the traders on the monitoring of the desk exposures.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Understanding trading Terms and Strategies.
  • Generate and analyze Daily Positions and P&L for designated line of business and publish it on a daily basis.
  • Analyses the daily performance of the line of business and explain to the head trader the P&L drivers.
  • Liaise with Trading and Execution, Risk Management Teams, and Accounting to achieve the daily task schedules.
  • Independently reconcile discrepancies related to contracts booking between the front and the accounting systems.
  • Ensure market valuation of positions held are as accurate as possible.
  • Understand and act as a backup for the position production and analysis of the Geneva desk.
  • Provide the business with P&L report tracking changes and review the month to date performance.
  • Provide support and assistance for the cash and derivatives traders to any questions related to position and P&L.
  • Oversee the daily P&L submission and reconciliation process of the other regions to ensure accurate daily P&L reporting to the Sugar and group Management.
  • Interact with Operational Control to ensure completeness of Month end financial close process.
  • Develop sugar trading market understanding (Futures/Cash/Pol/Expiries/Options/Brokers).
  • Process and system enhancement, specifically Atlas development and improvement.
  • On-going systems development and improvement.

Experience:

  • A Graduate / Postgraduate with 6 Months to 1 Year of experience preferably with studies in the Commerce/Finance field.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent knowledge of Excel (including Power Query), programming skills (VBA, Python) will be a plus
  • Good understanding of commodity and derivative markets and instruments, interest for trading and soft commodity business
  • Strong analytical / quantitative skills
  • Detailed oriented and critical thinking with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with good command over English language for effective interactions with traders and operations colleagues.
  • Pro-Active, problem-solving mentality.
  • Quick learner and willingness to adapt to new challenges in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
