The Internship

The Commodity Trader Internship is the first step in your career at LDC. It is an immersive 10-week paid program designed to equip you with the tools and knowledge you will need to thrive at LDC. You will learn about the commodities industry by working side-by-side with our industry experts. Our interns don’t learn by watching, they learn by getting involved in real trades. This “on-the-job” training demands a wide range of skills, including the knowledge and use of statistical information, particularly supply/demand economics, and quantitative analysis. The internship is designed to develop future leaders who will solve complex problems and design innovative solutions to develop, advance, and modernize the entire food supply chain to meet the growing challenge of feeding the world. Interns will be considered for full-time employment as a Trader Trainee, after graduation.  Candidates must be open to placements in Memphis, Tennessee or Wilton, Connecticut.  

About the Internship

  • Interns will complete a 10-week program and learn how to trade physical commodities in global markets while managing the substantial risks inherent in volatile markets.
  • Program starts with a comprehensive training seminar designed to help you succeed in your position.
  • You will gain familiarity with the physical flow of commodities in both domestic and international markets.
  • You will be assigned hands-on, robust work, goals, and objectives tied to real business needs. 
  • Interns have direct access to senior traders and managers in an open working environment that is designed to encourage the free flow of ideas and information.
  • Interns are encouraged to actively participate, ask questions, and offer opinions. 

Knowledge & Skills Needed

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Critical thinking, long-term vision, and the ability to think on your feet.  
  • Demonstrated interest in trading and/or markets.
  • Detailed-oriented, strong organizational skills, and have a genuine interest in learning about trading physical commodities. 
  • Ability to gather, analyze, and interpret large volumes of data.
  • Open to relocation both domestically and internationally. Language skills are a plus. 
  • Pursuing a degree in agricultural economics, economics, finance, or mathematics preferred but not required.

College students in Junior or Senior year
