Overall Purpose and Objective of Position
This position is responsible for all aspects of production and operations in the SBO Refinery & Packaging plants. This position includes supervision and coordination for utilities such as boiler and wastewater operations. This person will work independently with supervision to help develop and support the goals and strategies of the Company and the facility.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
- Make improvements, propose, and follow Capital Expense Projects to the refinery, packaging & utility process as necessary to maximize efficiency, increase product quality and/or lower costs
- Accountable for all operational aspects of the refinery, packaging & utility process and efficient performance of production supervisor functions daily consistent with ensuring a safe workplace, meeting Key Performance Indicators, producing food safe product, and maintaining an environmentally sound facility
- Direct, maintain, and enforce safety programs for all personnel and plant equipment
- Ensure all applicable government regulations are always met
- Assist in site construction management. Ensure that project goals are met. Prepare the plant for commissioning and startup
- Complete regular checks of refinery & utility staff and equipment to ensure that standard operating procedures are followed, and Company standards are met
- Maintain proper coverage by managing the refinery and Packaging staffing schedules. Hire, train, evaluate, and discharge staff as needed
- Plan and manage the refinery, packaging & utility budget to meet facility needs and production goals
- Maintain inventory of supplies to ensure efficient plant operation on Refinery, Utilities and Packaging operations
- Provides direct input and monitoring for Inventory Planning metrics targets (aggregate inventory targets, inventory health, production actuals vs. plan, production run length and storage capacity optimization)
- Provides input and insight by performing root cause analysis and developing action plans to close gaps between target and actual measures/process deviations
- Plans and manages Refinery, Utilities and Packaging operations to meet facility needs and production goals
- Respond to the refinery, packaging & utility issues or alarms and lead investigations as necessary
- Collect, record, and analyze refinery data to optimize efficiencies and product quality
- Serve as the liaison between the Facility Manager and the Refinery, Utilities and Packaging operations staff
- Notify the Plant Manager of potential safety hazards, equipment failures, operational inconsistencies, and employee incidents
- Report any refinery, packaging & utility equipment issues to maintenance staff
- Deliver job-related training to the refinery, packaging & utility staff to increase efficiency and safety
- Coach staff on the Company’s performance expectations and provide ongoing performance feedback
- Develop training and operating procedures as needed / directed
- Develop and implement production and quality measurement and control systems
- Review operations with technical or administrative resources to resolve production opportunities, improve efficiency, or otherwise reduce cost
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Facility Manager or other executives
Safety Health and Environment (SHE) Responsibilities
- Is an active member of the facility SHE Program
- Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules, and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to
- Ensures employees are provided required training for area assigned, and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work
- Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner
- Ensures unsafe working conditions are remedied as soon as practicable

Working Conditions
Continuous 24/7 plant operation with 8 hours of normal day, as well as off-shift call-in requirements when needed
- Physical Effort: Heavy lifting of manufacturing materials and products is required. Position will require regular stair climbing and extended periods of walking and standing in order to access and occasionally work in remote areas of the plant, heights and confined spaces. Personal Protective Equipment will be worn in compliance with Company standards and government regulations. Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or to respond to emergencies
- Physical Environment: Work in a continuous 24/7 plant operation with regular exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions; regular exposure to gases, vapors, dust, odors and flammable liquids; occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise
- Mental Stress: Must be well organized, self motivated and be able to work effectively under pressure or unexpected timelines

- Directs workflow and direct reports to ensure peak production efficiencies and product quality
- Employs an understanding of Company standards and government regulations with respect to areas of responsibility to ensure ongoing compliance

- Bachelor’s degree

- Chemical/Process/Manufacturing Engineering
Experience
- 5+ years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5+ years working in vegetable oil refinery along with utilities process is preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Licenses (including any physical demands)
- Demonstrated leadership ability in a plant leadership position
- Able to set clear, reasonable expectations and hold staff accountable
- Demonstrated ability to provide and maintain a safe and effective working environment
- Project development and management experience
- Working knowledge of budgets, process reports, and other financial statements
- Proficient with standard software products
Equipment Used
- Production machinery such as Centrifuge, Bleacher, Deodorizer, filters pumps and Heat Exchangers
- Use of computer for entering data into the electronic data system and control of operating equipment
- Use of occupational health and safety testing equipment (e.g., air monitors) in compliance with OHS regulations
- Use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when needed
