The Electronics and Automation Supervisor is responsible for supervising electrical and automation projects throughout the entire site & overseeing maintenance work utilizing a team of internal and external resources. Responsibilities include Project, expansion and construction management on all plant projects, capital projects, and supporting maintenance staff overall. General electrical maintenance and repair of all plant production machinery and equipment.
Primary Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Oversee electrical crew lead’s plan and schedule of maintenance activities by priority level to minimize downtime and interruptions.
- Work with Electrical Crew lead to create and maintain inventory for tools and spare parts.
- Work with Warehouse Supervisor on adequate inventory stock levels by ordering and receiving parts and tools.
- Oversee internal and external resources linked to various projects, including but not limited to YII expansion, capital projects, etc.
- Work with all departments on any project that has electrical work related to it to keep LDC electrical standard practices in place.
- Back up the plan and schedule all preventative & corrective maintenance for machinery, auxiliary equipment & Building maintenance, with the maintenance crew lead.
- Coordinate with departments to schedule all project works and contractor work.
- Facilitate meetings to keep track of established timelines and due dates for projects.
- Collect and maintain drawings, manuals, and other documentation of equipment and machinery.
- Use technical knowledge to provide strategic support to maintenance departments.
- Keep record and file essential maintenance documentation.
- Coordinate with vendors for deliveries and ensure accurate invoicing.
- Keep track of KPI’s to ensure goals are being achieved.
- Help maintenance team with plant shutdown as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities / Essential Functions:
- Drive team culture that is focused on continuous improvement, positive morale and highest level of customer service and professionalism in the workplace.
- Consistently demonstrate leadership behaviors by focusing on how we accomplish task, in addition to what results we accomplish.
- Participate in the Maintenance Management On-call rotation.
- Work with Maintenance Manager and Human Resources to set performance goals and develop measurable objectives for team members.
- Provide formal and informal support and coaching to direct reports as needed to improve performance or generate opportunities for the growth and development of employees.
Experience / Education / Professional Certification & Licenses
- Minimum of five to seven years of Electrical and/or Automation work experience within a Maintenance department, previous experience with Capital Projects, and previous experience directly supervising internal and external resources is required. Computer literacy and CMMS experience is preferred.
- Relevant technical schooling or equivalent experience, Journeyman Electrician Preferred.
- Post Journeyman Qualification such as Blue Seal Preferred.
- Technical and practical knowledge of machinery/equipment
- Able to read and understand drawings/schematics.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Highly developed organizational skills
- Must be detail oriented.
- High proficiency with computers; Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
- Able to work in an extremely fast paced environment.
- Able to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Knowledge and/or experience in ISO quality standards system and LEAN manufacturing an asset.
- Knowledge of processing (Canola) industry is an asset.

- Demonstrated leadership ability in a plant management position with ability to set clear, reasonable goals and expectations and hold staff accountable to these goals.
- Need to be well organized, task oriented and able to effectively use time.
- Able to prioritize tasks and time in a wide range of situations.
- Will be required to work under tight timelines and in stressful situations where the plant may be down, and equipment or parts are required immediately.
- Project development and management experience
- Working knowledge of budgets, process reports, and other financial statements
- Proficient with standard software products.
- Continuous 24/7 plant operations with this position are Mon – Fri 8 hrs. per day depending on plant operations, as well as off-shift call-ins. The successful candidate should expect that there may be circumstances when they are required to work outside of their normal hours as a requirement of the position. Regular exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions; gases, vapors, dust, odors, and flammable liquids; occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high-volume noise.
- Heavy lifting of manufacturing materials and products may be required. Position requires regular stair climbing and extended periods of walking and standing to access remote areas of the plant. Work at heights and in confined spaces. Personal Protective Equipment will be worn in compliance with Company standards and government regulations. Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time sensitive projects, attend training or respond to emergencies.
