Overall, Purpose and Objective of Position

This position operates machinery in the cook, distillation, evaporation, and centrifuge areas of a dry mill ethanol plant. Primary functions are to operate machines and the computer control system for the plant; test and make adjustments to the equipment in order to optimize plant efficiencies; operate cook/fermentation areas; operate machinery for distillation and energy center; and to ensure that the operation of such machinery remains in compliance with all applicable Company standards and government regulations.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Operates process equipment including testing and adjust the equipment in order to optimize plant efficiencies, handles bulk chemicals and assists team members on the plant site
  • Performs Cleaning in Place (CIP) routines on all required process equipment in the distillation/de-watering areas
  • Conducts quality control tests on product streams; samples and tests products and enters data into the electronic data system
  • Follows procedures for plant start-up, shut down, cleaning and batching
  • Complies with Company safety rules and wears proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required in fulfillment of assigned responsibilities
  • Maintains good working knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) policies, rules, and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to
  • Maintains accurate and timely production data logs, reviews logbooks, inventory sheets, and process computer prior to relieving the previous shift operator
  • Performs required inspection rounds; records all visual damage and mechanical problems that occur while on shift  
  • Reviews collected data and make adjustments to optimize plant production
  • Ensures orderly shift change by communicating issues and/or ongoing tasks with incoming operators
  • Notifies Team Leader of any production or safety problems
  • Assists team members on plant site as directed by the Team Leader and Production Manager
  • Ensures work area is kept clean and free from safety hazards
  • Attends toolbox maintenance, toolbox safety, benefits and other meetings as required    
  • Accepts/carries out/completes other duties as assigned

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

Basic qualification: High School Diploma/GED

Preferred qualifications: Technical degree or professional certification Valid forklift certification

Experience

Basic qualification: 1 year of experience in an industrial processing facility or in a machine shop

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of manufacturing regulatory and safety requirements (e.g., OSHA)
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate computer control systems
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to give direction as needed with respect to machine operation
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at heights of up to 125 feet; manage confined space entry, withstand extended periods of walking and standing; move manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 50 pounds or more which requires regular bending and lifting.
  • Good interpersonal skills

Preferred qualification: Experience in the ethanol industry

Job Description
